Middle School & Confirmation Ministry

Our confirmation program begins in 7th Grade and focuses on preparing students to affirm the promises that were made by their parents and sponsors when they were baptized. The Confirmation program is designed to create opportunities for interaction and fellowship as well as learning and service.  Small Group Guides are utilized to become a part of each youth’s Faith Web.

  • Courses focus on the foundations of the ELCA faith:  the Bible; Luther’s Small Catechism; and worship and prayer.
  • A capstone faith statement project, which allows the student to tell the story of his or her faith development, as well as his or her plans to continue to grow in faith in the future.
  • In addition to confirmation, middle school students are encouraged to attend Sugar Creek Bible Camp’s Confirmation Camp the summer before their 7th grade year.
  • Periodic fellowship and service events at the church and off-site are an additional piece of the confirmation experience.

If you are interested in being a part of the St. John’s Confirmation program, or for more information about confirmation and middle school programs, please contact Pastor Paul Markquart or Jen Kooistra, Director of Youth, Family and Education Ministries.

Confirmation classes are held on Wednesday evenings from 6:30 to 8pm and are led by Pastor Paul and Jen Kooistra. We have just finished studying the two Sacraments of the ELCA.  Parents and youth are reminded to attend on Wednesday, May 23rd to learn how learning about our faith doesn’t end just because school is out for the summer.

Please also check the Worship Assistant schedule for services at which you’ve been assigned to acolyte or assist in another way. Call the office if you are unable to assist as scheduled.

High School Youth activities are currently centered around preparing for the ELCA Youth Gathering in Houston, Texas this summer.
