Welcome to St. John’s

Dear Friends,

Whoever you are. However you come. There is always a place for you at St. John’s.

We are a community of imperfect people who are trying to be faithful. We believe that God isn’t asking us to be perfect, but through His love and forgiveness He shows us that he loves and cares about each one of us. We hope to encourage one another in such a way that each person will experience welcome, joy, gladness, and hope.

You are “at home” with us. After all, Christ has made us family!  Let’s get to know one another.

Pastor Paul

Everyone is welcome here among us!

Worship Times and Styles

Saturday at 5pm: While this service features a number of traditional elements like the 8am service, it is slightly more laid back in feel. Music is primarily on the piano.  Most attendees wear slacks or skirts, though it is perfectly fine to dress more casually.

Sunday at 8am: This service is the most traditional. It uses the official liturgy, features hymns on the organ and is slightly more formal. Most attendees wear slacks or skirts, though it is perfectly fine to dress more casually.

Sunday at 10:30am: This service has a more laid back feel. Our worship band features Christian Contemporary Music, the pastors don’t wear robes, and many attendees wear casual attire.

During the Summer, our Worship Service hours change. Many attendees wear casual attire.

Saturday Worship Services continue at 5:00 PM.

Sunday Morning Worship Service starts at 9:00 AM and features blended music.

All children are welcome in worship! We have a children’s sermon for them, where they will receive an activity sheet, and we also have activity bags for them to play with throughout the service.

If you need to take your children out of the service, we have a staffed nursery for children age 6 and under during both Sunday services and the Sunday School Hour. The nursery room is down the hall, past the office and the restrooms. (If you need assistance, please ask an usher.)

Education Hourkidschurch

Between Labor Day and Memorial Day, we have an education hour between the Sunday services, starting at 9:15. Children ages 3 and up are encouraged to attend Sunday School classes, and there are often educational offerings for adults as well.
Before heading off to a class, stop by the Third Sacrament Café for a cup of coffee and a sweet treat at a reasonable price.
Check the weekly announcements for more information on upcoming opportunities. If you have questions about Sunday School, please contact Jen Kooistra, Director of Education, Youth and Family Ministries or Pastor Paul Markquart.

Communion

In Holy Communion, we are reminded of the ultimate sacrifice Jesus gave to us: Himself. In this meal, we receive Christ’s body and blood through the elements of bread and wine for the forgiveness of sins. All baptized Christians are invited to come forward to receive Holy Communion. We do commune children, but if it is not a part of your family preference, we will offer your child a blessing.
As you come forward, please come by the center aisle, and return by the side aisle back to your pew. Communion is offered by both red wine, in the first cup, and clear grape juice, in the second cup. The regular wafers are certified nut-free. Gluten-free wafers are available with the presiding pastor; please ask as you approach the server.
