Sunday School

At St. John’s, we believe that young people are vital members of our community.  Just like adults, children and youth need opportunities to worship, grow in faith, enjoy fellowship, and reach out in service to others.  Because we know how important parents and other caring adults are to the faith development of young people, our programs emphasize building relationships between faithful and capable adults and growing in faith together.  If you have questions or need more information about how to get involved, please contact Pastor Paul Markquart or Jen Kooistra, Director of Youth, Family and Education Ministries.

Between Labor Day and Memorial Day, Sunday School meets from 9:15am to 10:15am between worship services.

On the 1st and 3rd Sundays of the month, Sunday School is designed for EVERYONE – all ages and stages – and takes place in the Friendship Room (aka the gym). The 1st Sunday is Cross-Gen Sunday School where we mix everyone up into small groups of 5 people to share and learn together. The 3rd Sunday of the month is Family-Style Sunday School. Everyone gathers in small groups defined by the households in which they live and “adopting” those families of one or two to join them. These groups are the same each month and foster deep relationships and offer the opportunity to practice the FAITH5 at church before engaging in them at home. The 2nd and 4th (and 5th) Sundays are traditional Sunday School. Youth from PreK-6th grade meet in the Sanctuary for Opening before separating into their classes by age/grade.
